Pittsburgh MCG - Ivy - Day 2
Today
had an exciting start! Kay woke us up at 6:30 and told us to come for
breakfast, and to my surprise it was freezing. Everyone gathered and we were
ready and waiting for Jess, our resident instructor, to arrive. The drive was
thrilling because it was our first drive up to Yellowstone! We stopped at the
Roosevelt Arch, took pictures, and did a quick activity. Jess had a ball with a
ton of questions, and we threw it back and forth and answered them. I
personally loved it because it let us get to know each other better, and it’s
an easier and more fun way to do so. Jess told us about the stagecoaches coming
through the arch, and it was crazy to imagine stagecoaches driving on the same
road as you so many years ago. As we drove into Yellowstone, the view was so
overwhelming. There were so many things to take in as we drove by, and I found
myself frantically looking out each window. Our first destination was Old
Faithful and while we waited until the geyser was going to blow, we did our
civic engagement project. The point of the project was to talk to a stranger
and just have a talk with them about what they know about Yellowstone and
inform them about our Top 10 topic. It was frustrating for me, because I don’t
really like talking to strangers, so it was hard to find someone I would
approach. After we conducted the interviews, we went and had lunch right before
Old Faithful went off. To be completely honest, Old Faithful wasn’t as tall as
I expected. Even though it was smaller than I expected the experience of being
there was still amazing. It was hilarious as the geyser went off to hear all of
the cameras snap pictures at once. Our next destination was my favorite, and it
was Grand Prismatic Springs. The hike up was super fun and challenging, and
when we got to the top, it was awesome in the awe sense of the word. The colors
that we saw were so vibrant, and it was crazy to know that this was a natural
occurrence. It was an amazing end to our day, and it will be marked in my mind
as the most beautiful sights in the world.
